BEGINNER'S GREEN SMOOTHIE
I know green smoothies can sometimes be intimidating. Not everyone is ready to chug back a kale, parsley and celery smoothie, and honestly, even I wouldn't want to! Something I am constantly reassuring my clients of is that it's not 'all or nothing' when it comes to nutrition!
Start at the beginning, but try. Try new things and keep an open mind. If you don't like it, try something else. Find what works for you. If you're not ready for the strong taste of kale, start with spinach since it has a super mild taste and pairs well with just about any fruit.
Why should we all be drinking green smoothies?
It's not a trend and it's not a fad - it's how real life healthy living is! Green smoothies pack an abundance of nutrients that you can't even fathom, as well as loads of fiber and healthy fats. They provide energy, help to boost mood, eliminate cravings for junk, support the immune system, and are fun to make and bring out your creative side.
Just promise you won't give up on the idea because of one bad smoothie experience - we've all had one! There was this one time I made a spinach, kale, beet and strawberry smoothie and it was pretty nasty. Mind you, had I only used kale or spinach and added in some pineapple, it probably would have been pretty tasty. Live and learn.
It's about finding a balance and not jumping too far in. Although, once you have developed a taste for greens, keep challenging yourself one ingredient at a time. You'll soon be a green smoothie rock star!
Below is a super easy recipe that's great for beginners! This makes a thicker smoothie, more suited as a smoothie bowl. If you prefer a thinner version, add 1/2 cup extra liquid.
P.S. - my kids devour this stuff!
