Growing up on junk food, you learn to depreciate the raw and natural taste of whole foods. When I committed to changing my lifestyle habits as a 19 year old, I got my taste back - meaning, I learned to enjoy and savour the natural flavours of fruits and vegetables.
Unless I'm at a high-end restaurant where the sorbet is freshly made, I don't eat store-bought ice cream anymore. Why would I when it's so simple to make at home yourself and super delicious + nourishing?
If you're not familiar with using frozen bananas to make your own version of ice-cream, know that the flavour combinations are endless! Below is one of my favourite go-to desserts.
'NANA ICE-CREAM (SERVES 2-4)
Print recipe HERE.
- 1 very ripe banana, peeled, sliced and frozen*
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 2+ tbsp. filtered water or nut milk
*Peel and slice a super ripe banana (with brown spots). Place it in a small zip-lock bag and freeze overnight.
- Place all ingredients in high-speed blender or food processor and blend until completely smooth. You may need to stop every so often to stir mixture before blending again. Add more water, if needed.
- Eat immediately as this stuff melts faster than ice-cream.
