DIY - ADD A COUNTDOWN TIMER TO YOUR NEWSLETTER / WEBSITE
Motion Mail is a free service you can use to create a countdown timer to place within your newsletter or on your website. Using a countdown timer is an excellent way to add some urgency to your offers - because sometimes people need a kick in the butt to get moving on things (I’m guilty of this myself).
Head on over to http://motionmailapp.com and click on “sign-up” to create an account. If you have previously created an account, then you would of course log in instead.
Once you are all set up, you will be directed to the Dashboard. Once on the Dashboard, click on “Create timer”.
Next, you will select a countdown timer template.
Once you have selected a countdown timer template, fill in the name of your timer, the end date/time (i.e. when you want the countdown timer to reach zero), your time zone, language, and your brand colours.
When you are happy with how your countdown timer looks, click “Save this timer!”
You’ll be directed to a new page that provides details about your countdown timer, including a link for you to copy and paste into your website or newsletter.
FOR USE ON YOUR WEBSITE:
Once you have copied the code link, log into your Squarespace website to the page you wish to insert the countdown timer (ex. your sales page). When you have found the spot within your website page that you would like to insert the countdown timer, select “Code” from the insert options.
Insert the code link you copied from Motion Mail and click “Apply”.
If you would like your countdown timer centered within your website page (i.e. rather than off to the left), insert a spacer bar on each side of the countdown timer.
FOR USE IN YOUR NEWSLETTER:
Once you have copied the code link, log into your MailChimp account, open the newsletter template you wish to insert the countdown timer into, and select “Code” from the options provided.
Once you have inserted the code, click “Save & Close”.
If you need to go back and edit your countdown timer for any reason, log into your Motion Mail account and click on “Dashboard”. From the Dashboard, you’ll be able to see all your countdown timers. Click on “Action” and select “Edit”.
If you no longer need your countdown timer, select “Details” from the “Action” menu. From the summary page for your countdown timer, you can click “Deactivate Timer”, which will make your countdown timer inactive.
That’s it! You can literally have a countdown timer ready to go in less than 10 minutes.
